The Bluebirder goes Bluebirding
Friends of the Bluebirds have an active role in supporting the bluebird. For most volunteers this means placing and doing maintenance of bluebird nesting boxes.
Numbers are assigned for each nesting box and each line. In early spring Friends of the Bluebirds volunteers can be seen along the roads checking their nesting boxes in preparation for the return of the bluebirds. Bluebirds usually arrive in March or April.
Each box is monitored several times during the season. Members record information concerning the species located in the boxes, number of eggs, fledglings and if a second nesting has occurred. This information, along with the related dates is compiled to provide historic documentation of the bluebird population within the area.
